Portrait of me as a Writer

I am a writer who uses vivid imagery. If I were to see a picture of anything, but let’s say a campfire in the winter, I would have no problem explaining what that image looks like through words. I am a writer who gradually leers the audience into seeing what I am describing. I would include how the flame stretches out as if it has to reach its full capacity and stretch out to every corner. I would explain how there is snow falling, and how it is brushing off of the sides of trees, some snowflakes getting stuck on branches. I would convey that there is a trail of deep, wide footsteps, so it is an adult who is here. I would show how the trail of footsteps leers the reader’s attention to a different aspect of the picture: the vast distance. I would explain how there are tiny lights in the background, maybe from a house. I could go on and on, but as one can see, I do not have a problem with using vivid imagery.

Vivid imagery is a writing technique that I learned in the first quarter. Our class was writing personal narratives, and our teacher gave us some notes on how to incorporate vivid imagery in your writing. After adding some in, I already saw how much better my writing is. Vivid imagery was something that came easy for me, but for others it was difficult. I think that it is important to know what areas you are good at as a writer so that you can be sure that you include those areas in your writing.
